“Could Conjoined Twins Share a Mind?”

The article “Could Conjoined Twins Share a Mind?” by Susan Dominus is about how twin girls, Krista and Tatiana Hogan, are conjoined at the head. The article describes how the family found out they were going to have conjoined twins and how later on they believed that the twins shared the same sensory feelings. Dominus describes how she visited the family and found out how the girls are connected not only physically, but mentally as well. The family tells Dominus about one experience where Krista drank and Tatiana could feel the sensation of the liquid going down. The girl’s doctors believe that the girls share sensory impressions, so the girls can feel, see, and taste things the other girl is feeling, seeing, or tasting. Even though the girls are connected mentally they have completely different personalities and likes and dislikes.

Even if the doctors aren’t positive about the girl’s reactions to the other girl’s sensory inputs from what I read I definitely believe the girls are connected. Before reading this article I never thought of how conjoined twins could be connected other than physically. Now I realize that they could even know what the other is thinking about.
